Where to begin...

I am tackling the Closet from H3LL... The only problem is that the scope of the project is really quite overwhelming. I need to make significant progress this weekend and I feel stuck. I'm not sure what to do next because it's just SO much to deal with.

So, tonight I am trying to do a little strategizing so I can dive in tomorrow and get things done. I know that the clock is ticking and I cannot wait on getting this done forever. The thing is, I have a habit of doing my cleaning like some kids clean their plates of unwanted veggies. I just move things around and make it seem like progress is being made while slipping bits to the dog. Only, in my case I end up stashing things in other places instead of actually confronting the need to throw something beloved or potentially useful away. And that's why I have this problem in the first place. Well, that and the fact that I hate filing but have a metric f*ckton of things that really need to be filed.

For a "short" (4 day) week, this workweek seemed long. I would love to do something fun this weekend. I doubt I will get the chance, though, because I have a date with that Closet. Wish me luck!

Good luck!
I hate throwing things out - or giving them away, although that's better I GUESS...but let's say you give someone an old computer because they needed a computer and you really loved that computer but you figure they need it more...and then they or someone they know decides your old computer isn't fast/good enough for them and...instead of saying "hey, that old computer isn't going to work out for me, did you want it back or can I just get rid of it?" they just chuck it out or god knows what! Hate, hate, hate that!
Then you find out later that that person once again doesn't have a working computer...I guess because they are a dummy-mcdumbo who throws things out all the time instead of sensibly packratting them! Are you going to help them again? Oh HELLS no!
I mean...hypothetically speaking...

AND no wonder it's hard to get rid of things...I regret things I get rid of ALL THE TIME! Why-o-why did I get rid of that shirt/keyboard input device/cell phone accessory/cooking appliance...etc, etc, etc!!! Maybe I didn't use it for three years but I WANT/NEED IT NOW!
(sorry, that's not very encouraging, I guess.)

@Jinx.tv- But you "get" it, so it isn't just me who thinks "but... I'm going to NEED this"

And there are all the people who say "but if you end up needing it, you can just buy a new one!" but so often you a) can't afford a new one or b) they don't make those anymore.

And, I do admit, there are some things I have many of (pairs of scissors) because when I NEED a pair, I can never find the ones I already have!

The other scenario that drives me nuts is that I have something that someone else sees and comments how much they like it. And it is something I use, oh... every 3 months. So, I'm nice and give it to the person who commented because I'm thinking they'll use it ALL THE TIME. And then find out that they either never use it or gave it to someone else or are using it for a horrifyingly awful purpose (Yeah, I smashed that Ming Vase and used it as drainage for my tomatoes...it works so well for that!) And I know once you give something to someone, it's a gift and you shouldn't care but when I think of all the stuff I left for The Wasband to use that is now gone forever, I could just kick myself (first & foremost my food dehydrator).

There has to be some middle ground between "Purge it all" and "Hoarder!"

OMG...I totally regret giving away my food dehydrator, too! I never used it and I was going to get a model that works better with the recipes I had BUT now I want to make kale chips all the time and I never got a new one and...boohoo now I'm feeling sorry for myself...

I saw a woman on one of those hoarder shows who filled up her big, beautiful house with soooo much stuff that she had to move out of it into an apartment (she still had the house), but she'd been evicted from two apartments already because of all her stuff and was in danger of being evicted from the third AND she also had THREE big storage lockers stuffed full!
So you see...you're doing great! We both are!

LOL! Love this and can totally relate. Just before the holidays I cleaned out a closet I'd put off doing for 3 years! I'm still worried that I threw out stuff that I'm going to miss, but I gave a lot away, too and that always makes me feel good. Hope all goes well for you, MsDarkstar! Oh, and you have a new follower! :)
